Sinister Pointe’s “SCARY PLACE”

We’ve really missed Sinister Pointe.  Their absence was fully noticed and felt out here in SoCal during haunt season. After a period of darkness, one of our top-rated Haunt events is making the most spectacular return with what’s billed to be the LARGEST MULTI-LEVEL, INDOOR HAUNT EXPERIENCE in California.

In past years the inventive Sinister Pointe Productions team has created some of our most memorable haunted experiences which includes the revival of Queen Mary’s ‘Dark Harbor and the special haunted nights at The Winchester Mystery House.  Through the years, they’ve also terrified us with Christmas and Valentine’s day haunts along with SeancesScavenger Hunts, VR Experiences, and haunted bars.

For fall 2018 they’re unleashing a brand new kind of Halloween event, Sinister Pointe’s Scary Place. Haunt lovers will be scared to death in three stories of unrelenting terror, covering over 150,000 square feet and featuring two all-new mazes and a brand new haunted dark ride. Yes, a ride!

The experience will begin as the brave and foolhardy alike cross the veil into the foggy realm known as the Scary Place. Two mazes and a new ride will await haunt goers in this murky realm of terror for a full night of Halloween fun including…

Evil on 2  (Walkthrough Attraction)

There is an evil that has taken over the second floor of this quaint little hotel and we need you to venture into this maze to investigate! Let’s just hope that the terror within hasn’t spread!

PHOBIAS  (Walkthrough Attraction)

Welcome to “PHOBIAS”. Step right up and see if you have what it takes when you’re put up against some of your greatest fears. A fully interactive maze experience that will test your abilities to cope with your worst nightmares. We hope for your sake, being alone isn’t one of them!

Boogeyman Express (Ride):

All aboard the boogeyman express. Rumor has it that the boogeyman and his evil minions roam these grounds hunting innocent bystanders! So I have an idea, let’s go see if the rumors are true! Please keep your hands and arms inside the carts at all times, for this here is the most hair-raising terror train in the wilderness!

Between the screams, horror fiends can feast on a variety of snack foods and check out the revolting entertainment including the main stage, wandering magicians, games, roaming packs of monsters, and the Sinister Pointe Dark Market where new merchandise from vicious vendors will be available for purchase.

“For 20 years I have been producing Haunted Attractions that many guests have traveled great distances just to experience a 15-minute attraction. I figured it’s time to give our fans an experience that will last an entire evening!” says Jeff Schiefelbein, the creative fiend behind Sinister Pointe.

Two types of tickets will be available, allowing guests to choose their fate. The All Night Pass will allow guests unlimited access to all entertainment, attractions, and vendors for a single price starting at $42 on select nights, and $52.00 on Friday and Saturday nights. DOCTOR ZOMBA’S GHOST SHOW OF TERROR

A new haunt show with magic and comedy is now playing in Hollywood, CA!

A modern-day revival of the “Ghost Show” popular in the 1950’s that features spooky magic, comedy, a seance, and a blackout sequence at the end where the audience is fully immersed in the realm of spirits and monsters.

Join Doctor Zomba and his lovely assistant Sirena, and the slightly less lovely Ear-Gore as they perform mesmerizing tricks, contact the dead, and unleash monsters from beyond the grave! First, sign your waiver! We are not responsible if this show literally scares you to death! One lucky audience member will win a real dead body!

See Professor Payne and the infamous Mutilator Machine. It thirsts for blood! Will it be yours?!

Starring David M Beach as Doctor Zomba!

WHO IS THIS SHOW FOR? All the monster kids that grew up loving Halloween, haunted houses, Famous Monsters of Filmland, & TV Horror Hosts. While much of the supernatural phenomena in the Ghost Show is played for laughs, there is a two-minute blackout sequence at the climax in which the audience is in pitch darkness, and they will SEE, HEAR and FEEL the mysterious & unexplained. If your child is younger than 9, or afraid of the dark, this might not be the show for them.

THE CAST: David M Beach, Kerr Lordygan, Tamara Torres, and Shelby Alessandro Martinez

DIRECTED BY Kevin Wetmore (Professor & Chair of Theatre Arts at Loyola Marymount University).

WRITTEN/PRODUCED BY David Lucarelli (writer of Tinseltown from Alterna Comics & The Children’s Vampire Hunting Brigade graphic novels). “Before they put on haunted houses for Halloween, ghost shows were a spooky, scary, funny way to celebrate the things that go bump in the night. The climax of each show was the blackout sequence in which the audience was enveloped in supernatural phenomena. They had all kinds of tricks to make that happen. We went back and studied the actual ghost show manuals from the 1950’s, and then we came up with a few tricks of our own! I don’t want to give away all our secrets, but I’ll just say I am an audio engineer and there are certain low frequencies that instill fear in humans. That’s just for starters!

“The casting of David M Beach as Doctor Zomba proved to be a real stroke of luck. One of the best ghost shows from the 50’s was Doctor Silkini’s. Years ago, the people that had the rights to the show hand picked comedian/actor/magician David Beach to be the new Doctor Silkini for a revival. It didn’t end up happening, but we’re extremely excited to we have the natural successor to one of the Ghost Show masters as our star!’

New Halloween Fun, Thrills and Villainous Décor Cast a Spell at Disney California Adventure Park

For the first time, Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is also taking over Disney California Adventure Park, with areas such as Buena Vista Street and Cars Land getting all dressed up for holiday fun. The recently-opened Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction gets some additional thrills as it transforms into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark each night. Additional attractions will receive spooky fun updates, and there will be plenty of Halloween decorations, themed food and beverage, eerie merchandise and more. Combined with favorite Halloween traditions at Disneyland Park including Haunted Mansion Holiday, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and Pumpkin Festival on Main Street, U.S.A., Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is now twice as much fun.

In Cars Land, everyone’s favorite Cars characters have transformed Radiator Springs into their own Haul-O-Ween celebration. (Disney California Adventure Park)
Halloween excitement begins as guests first enter Disney California Adventure. An oversized, shadowy silhouette of Oogie Boogie, the villainous boogeyman from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” ominously leers over guests passing through the main entrance. In a spooky but fun moment, Oogie appears to unleash a swarm of bats which sound as if they fly down Buena Vista Street towards Hollywood Land, Cars Land and beyond. Guests will even see the bats circling the tower of the Carthay Circle Theatre.

Cars Land Haul-O-Ween

Everyone’s favorite Cars characters have transformed Radiator Springs into their own Haul-O-Ween celebration. Scary the “Scare-car” greets guests at the entrance of Route 66 for a special photo opportunity. Each of the Cars has decorated its establishment for the season. With Fillmore showing off his Jack-Oil-Lanterns and ghostly folk art, Sarge displaying his “pump-kins,” and a Spider-Car spinning webs all over the outside of Flo’s V8 Café, the town of Radiator Springs will indeed be transformed into Radiator Screams!

Two of the attractions also have been transformed for Halloween for the first time. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree becomes Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree. Expect to hear some creepy, new songs and fun haunted twists on other hits, including “Monster Truck Smash” and “Welcome to Radiator Screams” as guests whirl around the graveyard. Additionally, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters becomes Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween, an all-new spooktacular dance celebration where Luigi and Guido entertain the cugini (cousins) with Halloween twists to traditional Italian festival songs like the “Terror-antella,” “The Chop Top of Carsoli” and more. It’s hair-raising fun … for a limited time!

Also, for the first time, the Cars characters will be donning their Halloween “car-stumes” as they greet guests and prepare to go “trunk-or-treating.” Mater will be wearing his vampire or “van-pire” outfit, while Lightning McQueen is dressed as a super hero. Cruz Ramirez, Red the Fire Truck and DJ get dressed up as a pirate, a clown and a punk rocker, respectively.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark

Fans were thrilled when Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opened in May at Disney California Adventure Park, and now they’re in for a scary Halloween treat as the attraction is transformed nightly into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. During the day, guests continue to experience the excitement, fun and six different ride experiences on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! However, each evening the attraction transforms from Mission: BREAKOUT! to Monsters After Dark. The Collector’s Fortress goes dark, alarms sound and all-new lighting on the exterior of the Fortress alerts guests that something inside has gone awry.

As guests enter the Lobby of the Fortress, they will be startled by flashing alarms and creepy sounds – warning signs that creatures have escaped their vitrines (glass cages) and all kinds of chaos is erupting. The Collector’s ever-resourceful assistant, Apheta, tries to keep calm by reassuring guests that all is in order, and this is just a momentary setback.

In keeping with the dark humor of the experience, an all-new 1970s-style punk rock song, “Monsters After Dark,” enhances the thrill of the experience. The song was written especially for this attraction by Tyler Bates, composer for the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films.

Buena Vista Street Halloween Décor

Along Buena Vista Street, guests will enjoy Halloween decorations in store windows and in Carthay Circle, they’ll see a new 10-foot-tall statue of the Headless Horseman himself, holding up his jack-o’-lantern head to the sky. New, themed background music further creates the appropriately eerie, but still fun, mood.

Mickey and his friends also will be in the area, donning their period-appropriate Halloween costumes, such as a bat for Mickey Mouse, a ghost for Goofy and a witch for Daisy Duck – all in playful fun, of course.

Drunken Devil Presents “Curse of the Jungle Drums”

A couple years ago, Drunken Devil made its entrance into the haunt world with “Sinner’s Soiree,” which was part walk-through haunted house and part nightclub/bar scene. It was a creative idea, but the first-year reviews were mixed at best, and our experience was disappointing. However, Drunken Devil has persevered and found a new niche in creating horror-themed parties and events that revolve around alcohol. (Their name is Drunken Devil, after all.) Their parties have garnered good reviews on sites like HorrorBuzz.

Their newest incarnation looks like an intriguing Tiki-infused night of fun and terror, which they’re calling “Curse of the Jungle Drums”:

THE DRUMS WILL DRIVE YOU MAD!

Drunken Devil presents an evening of exotica, dance, theatre, and horror in a brand new, one-night-only immersive soireé: Curse of the Jungle Drums.

Find yourself transported to Pele’s Hideaway, a lavish tiki bar in Hollywood, circa 1954. Back from an exotic expedition, a famous explorer has brought a mysterious idol to the bar’s owner as a gift; the idol, however, is cursed, and causes the club-goers to go mad, killing each other. You will arrive moments after the massacre, and, if you choose to, will be able to interact with some of the newly undead patrons, piecing together a horror-fueled narrative throughout the evening.

Partake in an open bar, presented by Lemon Hart & Son Rum, featuring a host of tiki cocktails as well as other spirits, beer, and wine; experience mystifying tarot readings and magic; snap a photo in an interactive photo booth; enjoy live music and steamy, exotica-inspired burlesque acts, and, as per Drunken Devil tradition, dance under the flicker of a disco ball to end the night.

Tickets are $75 and “will increase” as it gets closer to the event. Check out Drunken Devil’s website for more information as it becomes available.
