HHN Hollywood: Design a Character Contest Details Released!

Monday, June 3rd, 2013

Not to be outdone by Knott’s today, Universal Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights has just released the long-awaited details for their 2013 Design A Character ContestWe’d prefer a new haunt announcement, but we’ll take what we can get. From the looks of the contest rules, it seems we could expect some kind of  variation on the Universal Monsters theme again this year, most likely in the House of Horrors. Perhaps this year instead of Dubstep they will be going Gangnam style?

This is a very cool and unique concept for haunt fans, and we can’t wait to see what designs are submitted by all of the Haunt Stalkers, Creeps, and Freaks. Here’s a full rundown of the contest details and rules:

Here’s a chance to put your twist on a Universal Classic Monsters character and have it brought to life at Halloween Horror Nights! Winner and a guest will be invited to experience the design’s unveiling at the opening night red carpet event in Hollywood.

THE TASK:
Re-invent or re-imagine one (1) Universal Classic Monsters character from the list below. The design must be your original concept and cannot be based on an actor’s likeness or another existing character design (i.e., a movie remake, comic book, video game, TV show, toy product, etc.).
• Dracula/Male Vampire (as inspired by Dracula 1931)
• Dracula’s Bride/Female Vampire (as inspired by Dracula 1931)
• Renfield/Dracula’s Assistant (as inspired by Dracula 1931)

• Dr. Frankenstein (as inspired by Frankenstein 1931)
• The Hunchback of Notre Dame (as inspired by Hunchback of Notre Dame 1923)
• The Creature from the Black Lagoon (as inspired by The Creature From the Black Lagoon 1954)
• The Invisible Man (as inspired by The Invisible Man 1933)

TWO WAYS TO DESIGN YOUR CHARACTER:

  •  Must include the character name from the list above that you are basing your design on.
  • Must be typed in easily readable font on 8.5” x 11” letter-size paper.

HOW TO SUBMIT:
To submit your design for consideration in the contest, you must mail one (1) copy of either your illustration or written description to the address shown on the Official Contest Rules. Your design must be accompanied by a signed copy of the contest rules and include your name, daytime telephone number, address, city, state, zip code, age and email address. My Bloody Valentine: Be Mine 4 Ever

Happy Valentine’s Day Haunt Stalkers!

my-bloody-val-dvdart1

Here’s a little Valentine’s treat for all of you:  a video walk through of the 2009 HHN maze “My Bloody Valentine: Be Mine 4 Ever” .

The idea to use this movie theme for a maze was a good idea, but unfortunately, it never fully delivered the scares and was one of the weaker 2009 offerings. This was thought to be a late addition after the plans to have a Wolf Man maze fell through. Like all the other HHN mazes, this maze did have very detailed sets and a strong linear story, which closely followed the plot of the 2009 remake. The mine shaft sets were well detailed and added to the foreboding sense of claustrophobia. However, one of the biggest issues had to do with the scare timing (you’ll see in the video), which was affected by the very elaborate sets that were hard for the scareactors to quickly “reset”  with the streams of people going through. Perhaps, had they added the 3D effect to this maze to complement its theatrical namesake, that would’ve upped the fear factor some. Nonetheless, it was still fun and an unique maze for HHN Hollywood.

Screaming Again: Alice Cooper is Terrorizing Universal’s HHN in Hollywood & Orlando

Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

With very little surprise to us, it was announced that Alice Cooper will be returning to this year’s HHN in Hollywood with a “new” maze called Alice Cooper goes to Hell 3D. It seems that the trend is for horror rockers to get a 2 year gig at HHN Hollywood. In addition, HHN Orlando will also be getting a Alice Cooper themed maze, Alice Cooper: Welcome To My Nightmare, which was the title/theme of last year’s HHN Hollywood maze.

Last year, we were initially skeptical about the Alice Cooper maze but we actually ended up really liking the Alice Cooper:Welcome To My Nightmare as it was fast paced with consecutive scares and offered a great amount of surprises. in fact, we found it to be scarier than Rob Zombie’s House of 1,000 Corpses 3D.  It sounds like with this year’s version they’ll probably be combining elements (meaning recycled set pieces)  from last year’s Alice maze and the former Rob Zombie 3D maze. We’re curious to see how different the the Orlando version will be compared to Hollywood’s versions.

There seems to be a great deal of synergy between Hollywood and Orlando this year. Of course, it has to be the year that Scare Zone is planning to visit both that they decide to have numerous similar themes. The last time they shared numerous themes was back in 2007, which was our last trip to HHN Orlando. For us, this is somewhat disappointing and we truly hope, that after this announcement there are NO MORE similarities. Of course, this year we also realize that HHN is most likely only going to offer 6 mazes which would also be the same number usually offered at HHN Hollywood; excluding Hollywood’s Terror Tram which could be considered a 7th “maze.” Also, one of Hollywood’s mazes includes a thematic overlay of  the tired, year-round haunt, House of Horrors.

In the meanwhile, we’ll remain optimistic that the next  maze announcements will be exciting and unique for both parks.

The Walking Dead to Stalk Universal’s HHN Hollywood & Orlando

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

After much speculation (and obvious to those of us who’ve been following closely), Universal Studios officially announced today that AMC’s The Walking Dead will be joining Silent Hill as a featured theme at Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood and Orlando. When we hear The Walking Dead and HHN in the same sentence, we bitingly think of the enormous crowds and lines that both parks draw in year after year . . . but we digress. The Walking Dead will actually let Haunt Stalkers experience the horror of AMC’s blockbuster original series in elaborately themed, haunted mazes and marks the first time that a television series has joined HHN on both coasts.

The Golden Globe–nominated, Emmy Award–winning series The Walking Dead is based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. The series tells the story of the months and years following a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights’ creative teams are working with AMC and The Walking Dead to create an authentic experience that is true to the Emmy Award–winning hit series. The haunted mazes on both coasts will feature eerily authentic, elaborately designed, movie-quality sets that include some of the most iconic locations and scenes from the show. Mobs of undead walkers bring to “life” the vicious, hungry zombies from the show.

More details about the official announcement and an interview with John Murdy, creative director of HHN Hollywood, and Gret Nicotero, co-executive producer of the Walking Dead, were revealed by Jim Hill Media.

The mazes will feature scenarios from seasons 1 and 2 of the show, and will begin in the the hospital where Rick wakes up from his coma, a scene featured in the pilot episode. Other scenes will include the swamp and the campsite. We’ve also seen photos of a barn being constructed for the Orlando maze, so we know one scene will include the barn. HHN is also using the original molds from the show to create the makeup pieces, so characters in the maze will look exactly like those on TV.

Experience Silent Hill in the Flesh at HHN

Saturday, July 14th, 2012

Today at Comic-Con Universal Studios announced that the video game, turned movie franchise, Silent Hill will be one of the featured themed attractions at the 2012 Halloween Horror Nights events in Orlando and Hollywood. The Silent Hill announcement has definitely created a new amount of buzz among HHN fans and Haunt Stalkers.

Silent Hill has been a recurring theme on the annual HHN survey and this will be the first time they’ve transformed a video game property into a maze. In the past, themes have included exclusive iconic horror movies like Scream, Halloween, Friday The 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and A Nightmare On Elm Street. With both a new game and movie coming out this fall it all makes perfect synergistic sense as the “Welcome to Silent Hill” maze will be able to promote the release of the next installment of the video game Silent Hill: Book Of Memories as well as the release of Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, which hits theaters October 26 via Open Road.

During the Comic Con session they screened a brief teaser for the movie which started with a woman running from a grotesque mannequin beast through a warehouse. Then, as the woman is trying to approach a man strapped to a bed it’s revealed that they’re surrounded by a crowd of disfigured nurses holding an assortment of jagged blades and worse. Suddenly, as the girl begins the move, the nurses start to jerk to life, honing in on the sound of the two in the middle. Now just imagine experiencing this in real life!

The screening of these two incredible scenes from Silent Hill: Revelations 3D was followed by short introductory segment with Director Michael J. Bassett, Adelaide Clemens who plays Heather in the film, and Producer Samuel Hadida. Following the movie preview this trailer played:

As you could image, the crowd erupted into loud applause and then Silent Hill Producer Tomm Hullett, Creative Director for Halloween Horror Nights John Murdy, and Orlando Show Director Patrick Braillard took the stage. First to speak was John, confirming that Silent Hill was coming to Halloween Horror Nights in both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort. He spoke of the origins of idea was reached after first meeting Tomm from Konami. “It was a perfect fit,” John admitted, “the passion for detail, I couldn’t be more thrilled with Konami helping bring Silent Hill to life.” Tomm, Creative Producer of several Silent Hill titles assured fans, “They did do their homework, and it’s going to be a cool maze.” When asked by the moderator what we will see of Silent Hill in the attraction, John was quick to reply, “All of it,” followed by, “With so much to draw from, we want to do as much as we can from it as we can.” He continued by praising the many great characters and environments they hope to recreate in the attraction, including Fog World, Other World, and many more. “First you’ll see the movie,” Michael chimed in, “then you’ll be in the movie.”

To further promote this announcement, HHN is currently giving away tickets to Halloween Horror Nights. You “just” need to follow @HorrorNights on Twitter and Tweet #UniversalHHN and #konamicode for a chance to win! For those Haunt Stalkers at Comic Con, simply stop by the Konami booth and you’ll get a chance to win HHN tickets after snapping a photo with The Nurse.

John Murdy confirmed via Twitter that the Hollywood maze will be located behind the Mummy attraction in the lower lot, replacing last year’s Hostel maze.

While we’ve already heard and seen proof of  The Walking Dead mazes terrorizing both parks, an official announcement on that property has not yet been made.

So far we like what we’re hearing from Universal for both their Hollywood and Orlando Haunts. We believe that both The Walking Dead and Silent Hill could be very scary mazes.  However, we’re also hoping that the similarities end here as we want to visit both haunts this year and have unique experiences at each one.

2012 HHN Hollywood Auditions

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

Universal HalloweenCalling all Scareactors, now’s your chance. Audition dates for HHN Hollywood have been announced:

WEDNESDAY, JULY 18th
Scareactors/Stilt Walkers
5:00pm – 9:00pm
Please try and attend the corresponding time slot based on your last name. Coming at your allotted time will provide for the shortest wait.
A thru G – 5:00pm to 6:30pm
H thru M – 6:30pm to 8:00pm
N thru Z – 8:00pm to 9:00pm
(Current AGVA members will be seen first provided they report at the appropriate call time)

We have a few tips for auditions from John Murdy, who has been kind enough to share these via his Twitter Feed.  Now if he would only tell us the mazes already!

  1. First off, you have to be 18 to work HHN.
  2. Don’t come to auditions in costume/make up. That goes for any audition you might go to. Instant turn off, we need to see you.
  3. Scareactors have to share in the vision of the event and work together as a team to achieve it. Gotta be a team player.
  4. Being a former HHN scareactor does not guarantee a role. We love our HHN alumni but you still must audition and earn it.
  5. They’re looking for uninhibited people who are in CONTROL OF THEIR BODY. Ever been hit in the face with a chainsaw? Not fun.
  6. They’re looking for people with special talents. They love stilt walkers and want more stilt walkers so leave your parade gig and join the darkside!!
  7. Scaring is not exclusive to men. They need the ladies as there’s lots of roles for women and not just the “Help me, please! help me!” victim roles. They need gals who can scare! SO BRING IT!!!!! Some of the best scareactors are women (and they’re fierce!)
To get a further sixth sense on what it takes to be apart of the terror check out our interview with a HHN Scareactor.

In other HHN Hollywood news, they’re going to start shooting behind the screams videos on Monday, after 4th of July weekend, and are already in construction on mazes 1, 2 & 3! So, if any of you Haunt Stalkers are at USH please be sure to take some HHN construction pics and share them with us and we’ll share with all our fellow haunt stalkers!

Get your scare on! HHN 2012 is coming…

Haunt Review: Horrifying Nights at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights 2011

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

HHA_2011__4674

Last year, Scare Zone attended Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) in Hollywood on opening night. But because of excessive crowds and a poorly designed system of processing frequent fear passes that delayed us more than an hour, we could not get through all the mazes in one night. We vowed not to attend HHN again on opening night, and as hard as it was to wait, we kept that vow. We attended on a Sunday evening on the third weekend of operation, and we’re happy to say that it was worth the wait.

_4673

As we approached the entrance to Universal Studios, a big sign outside let us know that the event was SOLD OUT and that only people with pre-purchased tickets would be let in. This was probably because Monday was Columbus Day, a holiday for schools and some employees. However, based on our experience last year, we know that HHN really brings in the crowds, so we do recommend pre-purchasing tickets no matter what night you plan to attend. We braced for the crowds, but we arrived early and had our front-of-the-line (FOL) passes already purchased.

HHA_2011__4676HHA_2011__4677

Those with FOL passes go through a shorter security line and are also allowed to wait inside the park before opening. Those with regular tickets are held behind the gates. There’s a sequence of ropes along the main street inside the park, and they gradually let us progress down the street, keeping control of the crowds. Right before 7 pm, a couple of girls walked out in front of the crowd, and there was a little sketch with Ghostface calling the girls on the phone and asking them about their favorite scary movie and then–of course–killing them. As soon as the rope drops, hordes of chainsaw maniacs surge through the crowd. It’s a pretty impressive opening. Unfortunately, only FOL pass holders will really be able to see this spectacle, since regular ticket holders must wait behind.

HHA_2011__4682

We hit the new mazes first, tackling The Thing and La Llorona (upper lot) right away, followed by Alice Cooper and Hostel (lower lot) immediately after. We got through four mazes in about 40 minutes, and there were no lines. If there is one single tip we can give to our fellow haunt stalkers, it’s this: Arrive before the park opens to get in line, and hit as many mazes as possible before the park fills up. Of course, the FOL pass helps, but we didn’t even use our pass until later in the evening.

HHA_2011__4712By about 9 pm, the park was filled with people, the streets were packed, and the lines were long. We used our FOL passes to revisit some of the mazes, and we found ourselves in a huge conga line once inside. In fact, in The Thing, we were completely stopped in a single room for more than 3 minutes, just standing there. Although the line operators were making attempts to stop the lines outside to break up the groups, it just didn’t work. There are simply too many people in the park, and everything becomes extremely crowded. Unfortunately, this can really ruin the experience and prevent anyone from getting scared, so again, we recommend you arrive early to beat these crowds.

RATINGS GUIDE:

One our ‘Terror-spondents” wore a heart rate monitor to measure how scary the mazes really were by seeing how much their pulse increased. We’ll include these new pulse ratings along with our traditional 1-5 skull rating system. We do our best not to spoil the mazes for those who’ve yet to experience them, so we won’t provide scare-by-scare reviews, but we will share highlights and our overall opinions on the effectiveness of the mazes.

Mazes

The Thing: Assimilation

HHA_2011__4691

Wow! We were thoroughly impressed with this maze. Our first journey through this maze had us terrified! The sets and especially the alien scareactors were really great. We feel as if we’ve already seen the new movie because we had to live through it. The maze takes you through the rooms in the outpost in Antarctica, including the laboratories, kennels, and even outdoors. Aliens and infected Norwegian researchers come at you from all sides.  The alien costumes were incredibly detailed. This maze had non-stop scares and a lot of big surprises. While going through The Thing, we were reminded of how well Universal crafts the sets and establishes suspense in their mazes.

La Llorona: Villa de Almas Perdidas

HHA_2011__4696

Last year, La Llorona fell flat as a scare zone, but as a full-fledged maze, La Llorona was terrifying and told a haunting, dark story of the Mexican woman who drowns her children to be with a rich man, who then rejects her. While it wasn’t based on a movie, it was like being in one. The set design of this maze was really beautiful. It really transports you to another place and time. The maze takes you through a church and into the village, where you enter Maria’s home and even see the lake where the children lay drowned. The scareactors are in many unpredictable hiding locations, often scaring us unexpectedly and there are also many props that surprisingly lunge to life to scare you to death. Creepy stilt walkers with goat skull masks were some of the most eerie creatures we’ve ever seen at a haunt. La Llorona is ever present as well, appearing and disappearing in ghost-like fashion through the scenes. After it was over, we wanted to live in the Villa de Almas Perdidas.

Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses (in 3D Zombie Vision)

This is a repeat from 2010, and it seems to be exactly the same as last year. The 3D effects are not from the usual black light but rather rely on flickering red and blue lights. The effect is disorienting and distracting. The sets are good, but we didn’t find too many scares in here. Many of the scenes revolve around actors re-creating scenes from the movie, and they are usually too busy dismembering people and laughing about it to really scare you. This maze had the longest lines last year (about 2 hours long), but the lines didn’t seem to be too bad on the night we attended (about a 50-minute wait at the high point) but it’s one of the slowest moving lines at HHN .

Hostel: Hunting Season

HHA_2011__4702HHA_2011__4706

Hostel takes over the same location and torture-porn niche left after the retirement of the Saw maze. For the most part, Hostel has the same layout as Saw and uses a lot of the same props and sets, and it even seems to use the same “dirty bathroom” scent in one scene. Our expectations weren’t high but this maze managed to be scarier than the previous Saw version. There also was a more thorough story element with the outside facade featuring shadows of victims getting mutilated in the windows and two young girls, with Eastern European accents, greeting you at the door to say “Goodbye, Americans,” before you’re ushered into the Hostel (if you follow HHN on Twitter, you can get a nightly code word to tell the girls who will then give you a special “hunters” card). Although the maze is mostly what you’d expect–scenes of people being tortured, body parts and blood splatters–we were impressed with the menacing nature of the scareactors. They really assumed an aggressive demeanor in this maze, which helped increase the suspense. A lot of the actors had seemingly sharp torture instruments that they liked to bring dangerously close to our faces. Although we’re sure (or hope) that these props were made of rubber or another innocuous material, it was still a little too close for comfort, and more annoying than scary.

Alice Cooper: Welcome to My Nightmare

HHA_2011__4700

We’re not really fans of Alice Cooper and we didn’t know what to expect, but this maze surprised and scared the hell out of us! It starts out a little slow as you enter Alice’s childhood bedroom, and although it seemed set up for some scares, nothing really happened in this room. Our timing might have been off. The maze quickly picks up as you progress through a series of nightmarish scenes, including creepy dolls with glowing eyes hanging from the ceiling, a crazy cemetery scene, giant snakes, a demented classroom full of spiders, and even an insane asylum with a “shocking” surprise. There are quite a few stilt-walker versions of Alice in this maze, including the Uncle Sam and Medusa versions, who were particularly aggressive and frighting. The scares in this maze were well timed and effective. There’s a few scenes were the scareactors are positioned so that they’re able to get at you more than once so after you recover from their initial scare, they jump around and give you second scare, for good measure. Similar to The Thing, the strobe-and-sound startle was used heavily and provided some of the best heart pounding scares, as evidenced by our post maze pulse rating!

The Wolfman: The Curse of Talbot Hall

HHA_2011__4680

Once again, the maze that is nothing more than an overlay of the House of Horrors is a disappointment. Terror Tip: Walk right past this maze when you get in the gates and find something better to start off with. This maze will have no line later on  in the evening.

We’re not convinced that any theme will ever actually work that well in the House of Horrors: its overall layout as a year round theme park attraction is just not set up for a very scary maze. However, of all the overlays that have been done for HHN, the Wolfman is probably the most effective and seems to be the most natural fit especially given that the original maze already has a couple Wolfman scenes. They tried a little harder to cover up some of the non-Wolfman scenery in the sets. But they still left the lights on the case full of Chucky dolls inside the Chucky room. I guess the Wolfman is a collector of Chucky memorabilia. Who knew? Anyway, in addition to the full-fledged Wolfmen stalking about, there are scareactors in various stages of Wolfman transformation which were more elaborate than the usual House of Horrors Wolfman costumes.

Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life

HHA_2011__4710

This year’s terror tram takes you backstage to see the filming of “Stab 8,” but of course, a real killer is lurking out there, waiting for you to foolishly disembark from the tram. The path of the tram is the same as in previous years. You go to Whoville and get chased by chainsaws, you walk past the Bates Motel and house, you go through the War of the Worlds set, etc.

HHA_2011__4708This year, they seemed to be pacing the trams so that the area around the Bates Motel was extremely packed with people. On Sundays and Thursday nights, the Terror Tram closes at 9 pm, due to noise complaints from the people living in the houses on the hill the overlooks the Terror Tram stops.  The sheet maze is also gone because of these complaints. Anyway, we shuffled along slowly with the crowd, seeing every scare that was coming our way. There are a couple of Ghostfaces at the Bates Motel and a scene with some Ghostfaces on a broken tram, but for the most part, the tram felt exactly like previous years. The biggest scare was the Ghostface hiding behind a trashcan in the queue.

HHA_2011__4707

While we were originally intrigued by this layover, it ended up feeling as if the Scream franchise was shortchanged with this presentation. Instead of being a genuine movie inspired maze, this came across as a desperate way to sell Scream 4 DVDs. Made obvious by our guide who before we disembarked the tram, shared a clip and said that it’s her favorite scary movie (guess she’s never seen any other horror movies or even any of the previous, and better, Scream movies). HHN should consider taking the tram to a different part of the lot, or eliminating it altogether and just making another maze. The line for the tram was beyond packed and once on the actual terror trail it feels like you’re in line all over again. We recommend saving the Terror Tram for last, after you’ve done everything else, or skipping the tram altogether.

Scare Zones

Scream

This is the entrance gate “scare zone,” with Ghostface lurking about with slashed up, scantily clad, dancers to promote Scream 4 “now available on DVD and Blu-Ray”. The pre-opening show for HHN is fun but nothing to scream about here.

1 Skull

Zombieville

HHA_2011__4716

This was a fun and scary area of the park inside their English village set, which is ravaged by the walking dead. The zombies were fun to interact with, and run from, as they attacked out of the fog-filled streets. We liked the look of the corpses with butchers, barbers, and—yes—even senior citizens.

3.5 Skulls

The Reapers

The Grim Reaper and his evil minions of death await victims coming off the escalator into the lower studio lot. But don’t fear unless you’re a young screaming girl as these seemed to be the laziest  and most uninteresting scareactors in the park.

1/2 Skull

Klownz

HHA_2011__4719

Murder and mayhem reign as an ultra-violent gang of clowns take over “The Big Apple.” These psycho circus rejects are armed to the teeth and hell bent on destruction…yours! There are some nice set pieces, and the chainsaw clowns were relentless. The fire crates in the center of this zone have become iconic with HHN Hollywood, but we’re ready for new types of stalkers in this area for 2012.

3 Skulls

Freakz

This zone was similar to Zombieville and Klownz, set up as a camp for cannibalistic sideshow performers rampaging through Paris. There were some scares here, but the energy wasn’t as high as the other two aforementioned scare zones.

2.5 Skulls

Summary

Along with ’07, ’08, and ’09 this was another great year for HHN. After visiting many other haunts across the country throughout the year, this trip reminded us how HHN Hollywood is in an unique class of its own. The quality of the maze designs is unmatched, with top-notch lighting, music, props, and special effects. Every detail is thought of and well crafted from top to bottom, inside and out. When you’re fortunate to be inside the mazes before the crowds hit, you also get to experience the high-caliber talent of the scareactors who make you feel as if you’re really inside the horrifying world of the respective maze.  We believe Universal made some necessary operating adjustments and fortunately cut some shows in exchange for an additional maze.  Now we hope for a 7th maze and a completely revamped terror tram experience (there are other places to go on the studio lot) in 2012.

ALMOST TIME TO SCRE4M

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Here’s a new Behind the “Screams” video of what Universal Studios Hollywood has in store for this year’s Terror Tram: Scre4m 4 Your Life. The horror begins tomorrow night.  Also, be sure to check out our full coverage of  this year’s HHN Hollywood mazes HERE.

HHN Behind the Scenes look at “Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life,” based on the latest installment of Wes Craven’s “Scream” film series. Universal will be unleashing the iconic “Ghostface Killer” on the world-famous backlot during Halloween Horror Nights 2011. Mirroring the “Scream 4″ film concept of a “movie-within-a-movie” theme, the “Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” experience will introduce guests to the fictional “Stab” slasher film franchise and beckon them to visit the production of “Stab 8,” currently “shooting on location on the backlot.”

The fantasy world of the movie collides with reality when aboard “Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” guests are transported through Universal’s famed backlot–the heart of the world’s most famous horror moviemaking studio-and find themselves being stalked by one of the most dangerous slashers in horror history: Ghostface.

“Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” casts guests as victims in this living horror film and elevates the “Halloween Horror Nights” experience to astounding new levels of blood-curdling realism.

Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood – The 2011 Mazes

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

FINALLY!

We all waited, like a dead old lady in a hotel room window, for the full line up HHN Hollywood mazes to be announced. It was almost more torture than a Jigsaw trap. After playing the game of cryptic clues that terrorized us for the past 8 months we can all either brag about guessing right or shame ourselves for being wrong.

Since January when Scare Zone broke the news of all the concepts they where considering, our Haunt Stalkers have been keeping the site busy with all of your guesses.

Here’s a a look a what all of you had hoped to see this year. It appears Murdy and his team did deliver with your top 3 choices of Scream, House of 1,000 Corpses, and Hostel. There also was strong interest in seeing classic monsters which we get with The Wolfman. The biggest surprises of the season are the Alice Cooper and La Llorona mazes. We truly enjoyed everyone’s input!

Now, with no further ado, here’s the entire 2011 Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights line up!

*Que Horror! Just Confirmed* La Llorona: Villa De Almas Perdidas: The maze will tell the story of La Llorona, doomed to walk the earth forever after drowning her own children to win over a lost love. When they failed, she drowned herself.

The Reapers: The Grim Reaper and his evil minions of death have been unleashed upon the Earth, equipped with mutilating chainsaws. There’s nowhere to run or hide; death lurks around every corner!

KlownzMurder and mayhem reign as an ultra-violent gang of clowns take over “The Big Apple.” These psycho circus rejects are armed to the teeth and hell bent on destruction…yours! Now that the Klownz have come to town, the city will never be the same again!

Freakz: A renegade band of out of work sideshow performers have set up camp on the smoke-choked streets of Paris. With the Freak Shows shut down and food in short supply, the Freakz have developed a taste for human flesh! If you venture into their camp after dark, you may not make it out alive!

Keep checking with Scare Zone as we follow final planning before the studio gates creak open for another season of horrors. Also, here’s a look back HHN Hollywood from years past.

Here Wolfy Wolfy Wolfy!

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

We Told You! The Wolfman is coming to HHN Hollywood. We’re honestly not sure how exciting this news is, since this will just be a thematic “layover” of Universal’s year-round House of Horrors. In ALL the past years, any theme that was placed in here ended up just being the inclusion of a few headlining characters into the haunt’s preexisting scenes.

While the house of horrors already has a Wolfman room, we expect we’ll see Wolfy popping out of the scenes of the other iconic horror movies featured inside. Guess we’ll finally get to see what Wolfman vs. Leatherface, vs. Chucky, vs. Norman Bates, Vs. Frankenstein will be like.

We could be completly wrong but so far, history has proven us right. Here’s a look at Universal’s House of Horrors aka The Wolfman: The Curse of Talbot Hall
